Montecristo

8 products in stock · 10 El Paso stores

Montecristo is a premium cigar brand founded in Cuba in 1935 and now produced in two separate lines, a Cuban one and a non-Cuban one. Because U.S. law bans Cuban cigars, the Montecristo we stock is the non-Cuban version. El Paso Smoke Shops keeps it in stock across our 10 Texas locations for same-day in-store pickup, 21+ with valid photo ID.

What is Montecristo?

Montecristo is one of the best-known names in the cigar world. It was founded in July 1935 by Alonso Menendez after he bought the Particulares Factory in Cuba, and the name was inspired by Alexandre Dumas's novel The Count of Monte Cristo, reportedly a favorite read among the torcedores who rolled the cigars. The brand's logo, a triangle of six swords around a fleur-de-lis, was designed by its British distributor. Today Montecristo is made independently as two lines: a Cuban cigar by Habanos S.A. and a non-Cuban cigar in La Romana, Dominican Republic by Altadis, a subsidiary of Imperial Brands. The Cuban version is the most popular Cuban cigar in the world, accounting for about a quarter of Habanos S.A.'s global sales. Since U.S. law prohibits selling Cuban cigars, every Montecristo on our El Paso shelves is the non-Cuban Altadis version.
