Product description

The Zippo Ultralite Black Emblem 355 is a Classic-size windproof lighter that sets matte black emblem panels against a bright high polish chrome case, with a blank frame in the center sized for engraving. It is refillable, built on the same brass case and hinged-lid mechanism Zippo has made since 1932, and it carries Zippo’s lifetime guarantee. Like every genuine Zippo, it arrives with an empty fuel chamber, so plan to add fuel before you light it the first time. To see which of our El Paso Smoke Shops stores has the 355 on the shelf right now, check the live availability on this page.

High polish chrome with black emblem panels

The 355 finish is what gives this lighter its look. A high polish chrome case reflects light like a mirror, while black emblem panels cover the front and back for contrast and a softer place to grip. The center of each panel is left blank as a frame, which is the spot guests typically have engraved with initials, a name, or a short date. The case underneath is solid brass, the same material Zippo has used for decades, so the lighter has real weight in the hand rather than feeling hollow. This is a finish that shows fingerprints, so a quick wipe with a soft cloth keeps the chrome bright.

Windproof by design

Zippo calls its lighters windproof because of the windscreen, the perforated chimney that surrounds the wick. Strike the flint wheel downward with your thumb, the spark catches the fuel-soaked wick, and the chimney shields that flame so it stays lit in a breeze instead of blowing out. The lighter does not self-extinguish, so you close the hinged lid to put it out, which also gives you the signature Zippo click. It is a refillable pocket lighter, not a disposable, and it is not a vape or a concealment device of any kind.

Filling, flints, and wick

This Zippo runs on liquid fuel, and it works best with Zippo premium lighter fluid. To fill it, lift the inner unit out of the case, raise the felt pad on the bottom, and saturate the packing material until the fuel just reaches the top, then wipe your hands and the lighter dry before lighting. Do not overfill, or it can leak. The flint and wick are normal wear parts: the flint sparks the flame and gets used up over weeks of regular striking, so keep a pack of replacement flints on hand, and when the wick darkens with carbon you can trim it or fit a replacement wick. Fuel, flints, and wicks are all sold separately.

Backed by Zippo's lifetime guarantee

Every genuine Zippo windproof lighter is covered by Zippo’s lifetime guarantee, summed up by the company’s own promise: it works or Zippo fixes it free. The guarantee covers the lighter’s mechanism, not consumable parts like fuel, flints, and wicks. If the mechanism ever fails, you send the lighter to Zippo and Zippo repairs it free under that guarantee. We sell and stock the lighter here in El Paso; Zippo is the company that honors the lifetime guarantee and performs the repair.

Questions & Answers

Does the Zippo Ultralite Black 355 come filled with fuel?

No. Like every genuine Zippo, the 355 ships with an empty fuel chamber because lighters cannot be shipped filled. Before the first light, add Zippo premium lighter fluid by lifting out the inner unit, raising the felt pad, and saturating the packing until fuel reaches the top, then wipe everything dry. Fuel is sold separately.

Are the black panels on the Ultralite Black metal or just a coating?

The 355 is built on a solid brass Classic case finished in high polish chrome, with black emblem panels fitted to the front and back. The black panels are the design element that gives the lighter its name and its softer grip, and the bright chrome shows around their edges and on the lid. The center of each panel is left blank as a frame for engraving.

Can you engrave the center of the Ultralite Black 355?

Yes. The blank frame in the center of each black panel is designed to be engraved, which is why this model is popular as a gift. Guests commonly add initials, a name, or a short date. EPSS does not engrave in store, but the frame is ready for any engraver you choose to use.

How is a Zippo windproof if it has an open flame?

The windproofing comes from the chimney, the perforated metal windscreen around the wick. When you strike the flint wheel, the spark lights the fuel-soaked wick and the chimney shields that flame so a breeze cannot blow it out the way it would a bare flame. The lighter does not self-extinguish, so you close the hinged lid to put it out.

What do I do when the 355 stops sparking or the flame gets weak?

A weak flame usually means it needs fuel or a fresh flint. Refill it with premium lighter fluid first. If it sparks but will not catch, fit a new flint from a pack of replacement flints, and if the flame is small or sooty, trim or install a replacement wick. Fuel, flints, and wicks are normal wear parts and are sold separately.

What does Zippo's lifetime guarantee actually cover on this lighter?

Zippo's lifetime guarantee covers the lighter's mechanism for life under the company's promise that it works or Zippo fixes it free. It does not cover consumables like fuel, flints, and wicks, which wear out with use. If the mechanism ever fails, you send the lighter to Zippo and Zippo repairs it free. We sell and stock the 355 in El Paso; Zippo is the company that honors the guarantee.

Age-restricted: you must be 21 or older with a valid government-issued ID to purchase. This is a refillable windproof flint lighter, not a vape or a concealment device. It ships with an empty fuel chamber; premium lighter fluid, flints, and wicks are sold separately. Use responsibly and keep flame and fuel away from children.
